Our lead engineer
Meet Declan Taylor, our lead air conditioning and refrigeration engineer
Sixteen years in refrigeration and air conditioning, starting as an apprentice with a commercial refrigeration company in Devon and training as an electrician alongside it. Refrigeration is where I learned the trade, and fault-finding is most of what that apprenticeship was.
'Fitting a system and fixing one are two different skills. After sixteen years, most faults are something I have seen before.'
Declan Taylor, Elevate South WestThat is why we are happy to take on other people's installations.
F-Gas certified, and Elevate is registered with Refcom, one of the two registrations a company must hold to work on this equipment legally.
How it works

We diagnose it properly
Some faults are a phone call, some are a part and an hour. If it is bigger than that, you will know at the start.
We keep it working
An annual service keeps it that way, and keeps your warranty valid.
What a service includes
What a service involves, and what missing one costs you
Here is exactly what you are paying for. Filters cleaned, drains flushed, the condensate pump stripped and cleaned if your system has one, and the outdoor unit cleaned.
A single indoor unit is a quick visit. Five rooms, or a commercial system, takes considerably longer and involves a good deal more checking.
Once a year is the standard, for air con and heat pumps alike. Miss those services and two things happen to you.
Your warranty may become invalid
Manufacturer warranties on this equipment typically run five years, sometimes seven, and almost all depend on an annual service by a competent engineer.
Miss those services on a five-figure installation and you may find years of cover no longer apply.
It costs you money every month
A blocked filter does not stop the system, it makes it work harder for the same result. You pay for that in running costs, and the components wear faster.
The law on refrigerant leaks
If your system holds enough refrigerant, leak checks are the law
For a home, an annual service is about efficiency and keeping the warranty valid. For a business it becomes a legal duty.
Once a system holds five tonnes of CO2 equivalent or more of refrigerant, it must be leak checked at set intervals and the checks recorded.
Five tonnes sounds enormous. It is about 2.4kg of R-410A, the refrigerant in a great many ordinary commercial systems, so buildings cross that line far more often than owners realise.
- 5 to 50 tonnes CO2 equivalent: at least once a year
- 50 to 500 tonnes: at least every six months
- 500 tonnes and above: at least every three months
Fit an automatic leak detection system and those intervals double.
And the responsibility is yours, not your installer's. In law the duty sits with the operator: whoever has actual control over the equipment, in most buildings the owner or occupier.
Leased buildings are the complicated case: it depends what the lease says.
If nobody has ever handed you a logbook for your building's air conditioning, sort that before somebody asks to see one.
Your compliance servicing gets done and your documentation kept properly, whether the system was ours originally or somebody else's.
For the trade
Need a refrigeration engineer on a job?
We take calls from plumbers and installers who have run into something on the refrigeration side and want an F-Gas certified engineer on it rather than working it out themselves.
Elevate already works with plumbers across the South West on heat pump design and supply, and a good deal of our repair work arrives the same way. We turn up, sort the fault, and you carry on.
